Dr. Aruna Samarakoon is an experienced medical practitioner with more than 20 years of diverse clinical experience across General Practice, General Medicine, General Surgery, Anaesthesia, and Intensive Care.
He began his medical career in 2005, working in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care before progressing to senior roles within a large tertiary hospital, including Senior Medical Officer positions in Medicine and Emergency. He later spent eight years in General Surgery, gaining extensive experience in emergency, general, and cosmetic procedures, while continuing to strengthen his expertise in anaesthesia and critical care.
Since 2012, Dr. Samarakoon has also operated a busy General Practice clinic, providing comprehensive, patient-centred care to people of all ages and actively mentoring junior doctors and healthcare staff. From 2022 to November 2025, he served as a Senior Medical Officer in General Medicine, managing a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
Dr. Samarakoon is now based at Active Health in Portland, and is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and holistic healthcare to the local community.
